Elbows Up for Climate is a campaign from local elected leaders who believe in the importance of investing in climate-forward national projects that will protect our country from the dual threats of tariffs and climate change. More than 270 mayors, councillors and local elected leaders from coast-to-coast-to-coast are part of this growing movement, representing more than half of all Canadians.
We know first hand the importance of supporting a Made in Canada economy that supports safe and prosperous communities. We are on the front lines of the growing risks to this safety and prosperity as climate-caused disasters threaten, harm, and even destroy the places we live. In summer 2025, hundreds of communities experienced the effects of climate impacts; a majority of Canadians are worried about climate impacts; and direct losses from extreme weather events in Canada totaled $8.5 billion in 2024.
Our campaign speaks to Canadians’ priorities: two-thirds of Canadians favour developing clean energy over fossil fuels, while 85% wish to maintain or increase federal climate action.
